Dear 3rd Grade Families,
In case we did not meet at Open House, I am Mrs. Williams and I am
your child’s 3rd grade teacher.
We are off to a great start this year and I am having so much fun
getting to know your children. Thank you for all of your warm greetings and
understanding of my last minute arrival. Our first week was great and I can
tell it is going to be a great year! In
this letter I will include some helpful tips and information to make the year
go smoothly. If you ever have questions
please do not hesitate to contact me.
Specials (Art, Music, Physical Education, Media,
Guidance, and Technology): Your child’s specials schedule will be in their
RAILS folder soon. You will also notice
there is a Week 1 and a Week 2 schedule.
This week is Week 2. Please keep
this schedule in the RAILS folder.
Homework: Soon, your child will begin bringing home
homework. Most nights your child will
have a small number of math problems to work on. This homework will reinforce the skills we
work on during the day. Homework is not
graded, but it is very important for your child to complete and return their
homework, as practice of their math skills as well as responsibility. In a few weeks, your child will also begin
bringing home Words Their Way homework.
This is our word study program that replaced spelling.
Remind: Remind is a messaging service that I will use to
communicate with parents. It gives you,
as parents, the ability to receive important information from our classroom on
your phone as a text message or to your e-mail.
I recommend using your cell phone number if possible. I will be signing
all parents who returned their Remind sheets up. You should receive a message
once this is done. I will use this
often, so you don’t want to miss out on important information. If you have questions or need help getting
set up please let me know. I will be
happy to help! Best of all, it is a FREE
service!
Responsive
Classroom: This summer, most of our
elementary staff was trained on Responsive Classroom. This program emphasizes the importance of
building a classroom community and respectfully interacting with others. Each day, we have a Morning Meeting to start
our day off on a great note. We are
creating our classroom rules and will write our Hopes and Dreams this
week. One part of Responsive Classroom
that we have not introduced yet in the classroom, but I wanted to make you
aware of, is called “Take a Break”.
Please understand that “Take a Break” is not a punishment, rather a time
for students to gather their thoughts, calm down, refocus, or whatever their
need might be at the time. It is not
meant to be negative, but to realize that there are times when we all just need
a minute to get things together before rejoining the group or activity.
Book Orders: Please return
these orders by Friday, Sept. 11th. Orders will help us to purchase books for our classroom library.
I enjoyed meeting many of you at Open House and I am very excited
to work with you and your child this school year. Again, if you ever have questions please feel
free to contact me!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Danielle
