For your information from the office: Halloween Event – The Spooner Police Department will be hosting their 3rd annual Halloween Event on October 31st from 3-9 p.m. at the old fire hall by the City Hall. There will be a haunted house, candy, hot chocolate and a free kids Halloween fun room!
In other news, the first night of conferences has been a big success. I love having the chance to chat with you all and I am so happy to be a part of your child's school experience. Thank you to all those who came in tonight. I look forward to seeing the rest of you on Thursday night or chatting on the phone with those who can't make it in.
There will not be Hi 5 on Thursday due to conferences. Please plan accordingly.
We will be having Black and Orange Day on Friday. Students will be entertained by Kevin McMullin during Specials.
I am wishing a Happy and Safe Halloween to those who participate!

This week should be a busy week for all. We are starting Unit 2 in Math and continuing on in our "tour" of the 5 regions of the United States. This week we will be visiting the Western region. In Science, we will start with Marvelous Machines. And we will be reading The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses in our ELA block and learning about pronouns.
The Spooner-Trego Lions club will be distributing dictionaries to all 3rd Graders on Wednesday afternoon. Friday will be our Black and Orange Day with a performance by Kevin McMullin. We will be having a mini harvest celebration on Friday morning during ELA. We welcome treats. :-)
We will have the same sorts again this week in Words Their Way. Students should have 4 days worth of homework done by Friday for this sort.
Tuesday and Thursday, October 27th and 29th, will be our first Parent/Teacher Conferences for the year. Please sign up if you haven't already at https://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Spooner_Elementary_School. I look forward to seeing you all then!

Happy Fall in Wisconsin, everybody! Hot one day, cold
the next. (Okay, let’s be honest. That is true from one HOUR to the next, too!)
I have a few things to share with you tonight. First,
book orders are due by Friday, Oct. 16th. You can send orders in to
school with your child or order online at www.scholastic.com with
our class code, GCRTM.
I will be submitting the orders after school. We earned a lot of free books for
our classroom from our September order. Ask your child about how many we got. I
haven’t used nearly all of the bonus points that we earned, either. Every order
you place gets your child reading at home and helps build our classroom
library, as well. Keep those orders coming!
Second, your child has a menu and paper for their
Words Their Way homework in their RAILS folder. They should complete one item
on the menu per night. Homework is to be turned in each Friday. We are doing
the same sort again this week as last week had a lot of schedule interruptions
for us. Please be sure that your child is completing this work daily.
I have quite a few pictures to share with you on here.
I will add them soon. I had actually added quite a few of our Hunt Hill Field
Trip right after that event and the next time that I looked, they were gone. I
am not sure what happened but I will try again the next chance that I get.
Parent/Teacher conferences are coming soon. Information
should be coming home with your child this week. I look forward to the chance
to chat with you all then. As always, please contact me with any questions or
concerns at any time.
Lastly, I want to thank you for sharing your children with me each day. I thoroughly enjoy my time with them. They are remarkable young ladies and gentlemen.

Welcome!
Welcome 3rd Grade Families!
Our year is off to a great start. We are getting settled in and moving to our normal schedule now, which means we are beginning Words Their Way and WIN (What I Need) groups. These are wonderful instructional times where students receive differentiated instruction to meet their needs.
In an effort to move toward "paperless", Words Their Way lists will be posted on the 3rd grade teachers' blogs each week. Lists for all groups will be posted here, so regardless of who your child's Words Their Way teacher is, your student's list can be found here.
I hope you will find the blog to be a helpful source of information for what is happening at SES and in 3rd grade!

A few things...
Hello!
It has been a long time since I set this blog up and I haven't been very good at keeping it updated. I promise to work harder at this from now on.
I have a few things to share with you today. First, this school year is flying by already! Where does the time go? It has been an amazing year so far. Our class has dived into Math, ELA, and Science. We have participated in Homecoming dress-up days and attended the District Pep Fest. This past week we went on our first field trip to Hunt Hill where we learned about Invasive Species, Shoreline Buffers, Stewardship, and Water Chemistry. Ask your child to tell you something that they learned.
This week marks the start of our first What I Need (WIN) and Words Their Way (WTW) cycle. Your child will need the word sort list every week in order for them to do their homework which will be turned in on Fridays. I will add the weeks lists to this blog every weekend for you. We are trying to go paperless as much as possible. Thank you for your help with this effort. Please let me know if you do not have regular internet access so I can provide paper copies if necessary.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming up on October 27th and 29th from 3:45-7:45. Please watch for information regarding scheduling. I look forward to getting to talk to all of you.
